Education for children from poor families and step-free access to school
Together with our partner ABI we covered school fees for children from poor families – and, with donations from the Wilhelm-Remy-Gymnasium in Bendorf, built ramps for step-free access to the school.
Royal College Namugongo is a school in Namugongo near Kampala. Many families in the area cannot afford school fees – and for children using a wheelchair or walking aids, classrooms reached by steps were hard to access.
On the action day “Your Day for Africa” run by Aktion Tagwerk, students of the Wilhelm-Remy-Gymnasium (WRG) in Bendorf raised a total of €14,189.36 in 2017. More than €7,000 of it went to ABI in Uganda. Boaz Murinzi Murema, co-founder of ABI and today chair of Bantu e.V., had visited the school and reported on the projects; a longer Uganda project grew out of this with a year-six class. The connection to Bendorf continues: a partner school in Bendorf also took part in the youth exchange Okushoma kwa Boona.
