Young women in Mbarara often have little access to recognised vocational training – and therefore to an income of their own. Together with the Nyentsya Community Development Association (NCDA) we made hairdressing and cosmetology training possible at Msingi School of BTVET.

Results

  • 18 young women (aged 18–35) completed the full 24-week training.
  • All 18 passed their theoretical and practical final exams and received certificates.
  • 7 graduates were hired directly by their placement businesses – an immediate employment rate of 39%.
  • All participants took part in a health workshop (HIV/AIDS prevention) and two workshops on business management and financial planning.
  • The salon equipment stays on site as the basis for future cohorts and salon services.
  • Participants spontaneously formed informal mutual-support groups.

“Your certificates are not merely a piece of paper – they are proof that you have the skills, the courage and the determination to make your way. I am proud of you.” – Boaz Murinzi Murema, Executive Director, Transparency Report 2025

The project budget of €11,220.74 was kept, with €11,190.70 spent. We thank the Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken, the Schmitz-Stiftungen and above all the entire teaching team of Msingi School for their outstanding work on the ground.
