OURS – early detection of cerebral palsy
Early diagnosis and support for children with cerebral palsy in south-western Uganda
172 children with cerebral palsy received rehabilitation – more than planned. Parents set up self-help groups.

In rural Uganda, children with cerebral palsy are often diagnosed late or not at all – precious time for support is lost, and families are left alone with stigma.
In the OURS project, our partner ABI organised early detection and early intervention in Mbarara and other districts of south-western Uganda:
- 172 children – more than the planned 150 – received medical rehabilitation.
- Parents set up self-help groups to support each other.
- The work reached six districts.
Inclusion of people with disabilities remains a cross-cutting theme in all of ABI’s programmes and in our joint work.
