“Soil, Seed and Heritage”: decolonisation in the classroom

Our new BIKO project brings rammed earth, seeds and colonial traces into Berlin schools – in cooperation with AfricAvenir International e.V.

From September to December 2026, three learning groups from grades 9 to 11 explore colonial continuities in building and farming: they build a rammed-earth element, sow and observe, explore colonial traces in the African Quarter in Wedding and present their results in a mini exhibition at their school.

Funded by the State of Berlin, Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, through the Stiftung Nord-Süd-Brücken (BIKO programme).
